An endearing pose by a western lowland gorilla has been beautifully captured by Ev Beard, an artist who has acquired a reputation for his captivating wildlife paintings.
‘Joe in Quiet Contemplation’, taken from a pastel painting, is a ‘limited edition print’ of850 copies, that are signed by both the artist and the late Molly Badham – co-founder of Twycross Zoo, Leicestershire along with Nathalie Evans. They are printed on 300 gsm acid free paper using high quality light fast inks, size 22 x 18 inches .
Joe was one of the very first animals at the zoo in 1963 after being rescued as an orphan. He sadly passed away in 2008, aged 45, after a short illness and will be missed by his international fan base.
Twycross Zoo is one of the major players in the international breeding programme especially primates for which it is world renowned.
