ins-lo Inscapes - the inward essential qualities of observed objects as embodied in artistic, literary expressions.

I endeavour to incorporate the ethos of my business name into my portraiture, to capture the essence of my subjects. This is evident especially in the eyes, which I Pastel portraitpaint with the knowledge that if incorrect the subjects character is lost. My technique of layering the colours produces flesh tones with depth and vibrancy that counteracts the usual method of using pastels.

Customer satisfaction is very important to me and pride myself on the quality of my work and guarantee an exact likeness of my subjects to provide a tremendous, original piece of art. My portraits are painted so as not to appear photographic as I paint them as a picture within a picture.

My wildlife work has been endorsed by the late, great Molly Badham – founder of Twycross Zoo, where I have exhibited on a number of occasions, so your pet portraits are in very competent hands. You have the opportunity to either treat yourself to a wonderful memento or present someone with a very special gift that can be passed onto subsequent generations.

Something Really Special

As an extension of my unique service, I am able to convert an old black and white photograph into a beautiful full colour portrait – all I require are the eye and hair colours. Envisage a grandparent’s amazement when presented with a full colour painting of their own parents old black and white photograph.

Rook1For something very unusual I can also produce a scene e.g. landscape, using glass paints on Styrene (Perspex). Glass paint scenes are relatively impressionistic, possessing a semi-transparent quality that, with the correct lighting and background, will create a tremendous exhibit.

Combined Photographs

So, what if your brother is in Norway and sister in New Zealand and you do not possess a suitable group photograph? No problem! Separate photographs can be combined to form one painting. If Dolly the Doberman or Ricky the rabbit wants in on the act, again this is possible. For full details please go to commissioning page.
